Product Information:

Amazing!  Who would have thought that honey roasted chickpeas can taste so good and be so addicting.  You will not be able to stop eating these super crunchy sweet and salty yet guilt free treats.  You’re getting 4 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein per ounce.

I received a package of these Chick Pz in my February Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

When trying these chickpea snacks, I wanted something clean and refreshing to sip, so I chose Blissful Buds Green Tea from Mellow Monk.  The sweet and savory taste of the tea made a nice accompaniment to these crunchy snacks.

What I Think:

I admit that I was kind of excited to try these … not because I particularly like chick peas or anything… but because I thought they would be different and really interesting.  Unfortunately, they didn’t live up to my expectations.

They’re alright, I guess … they kind of taste like a bland version of honey roasted peanuts.  The crunchy coating is tasty, sweet, and is similar to a candy coating that you might find on honey roasted peanuts.  The chick peas have a nice crunch to them … which is further enhanced by the crunchy coating.  But these lack depth.  It’s like the flavor kind of stops once you get beyond the sweet, crispy coat of salty, honey and toasty taste.  The chick peas … well, they taste like chick peas.  Slightly meaty, kind of mealy, and a little boring.

My Final Thoughts:

Overall, they aren’t bad.  They’re just … not all that exciting.  I can see the appeal of this product, especially if one is sensitive to peanut consumption.  Since I’m not, I personally would prefer to eat honey roasted peanuts than the chickpea alternative.  OK … but not great.

Crunchy Cinnamon Apple Chips

Crunchy Cinnamon Apple Chips

Product Description:

These 100% natural apple chips are crisp and satisfying. They’re slowly baked in a wood-burning oven to intensify the apple’s natural sweetness, then kissed with a whisper of warm cinnamon. Only 50 calories per serving, no added sugar or preservatives.

I received a sample pouch of these apple chips in my December Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

I love these apple chips as a tea-time snack!  The naturally sweet, apple-y taste goes along so well with this Dong Ding Oolong from Far Leaves, because I liked how the cinnamon notes of the chip and the sweet, apple flavor melded with the natural caramel-y undertones of the Oolong. It made for a really lovely treat!

What I Think:

Apple Chips are often a swing and a miss with me, because they are either so thin and wispy that they lack a good, strong, apple-y flavor or when cut thicker, they often lack crunch, making them more like soft, dry fruit chunks rather than something I’d call a chip.

These are great!  They thicker cut – no wimpy, thin cut apple slices here!  And they pack a crunch too!  These taste like apples with a lovely cinnamon accent.  They have a very pleasing, crisp texture that I want when I want a snack chip, and they are sweet and flavorful too.

I did get one or two “chewier” textured chips that were reminiscent of the aforementioned “soft, dry fruit chunks,” but overall, these were a definite HIT with me.

My Final Thoughts:

Apple Chips are not something I frequently indulge in, primarily for the reasons I mentioned in my first paragraph of this review … I simply haven’t found apple chips that I found to be satisfying in both flavor and crunch.  These Apple Chips from Barefruit offer both sweet, delicious apple-y (and cinnamon-y!) flavor as well as a that great crunch that I look for in a chip-like snack.

Product Information:

When we began our quest to make scrumptious, healthy snacks out of seeds, we developed our original flavor, Pacific Sea Salt. The touch of sea salt on these crunchy nuggets is sourced right here in our own backyard, the San Francisco Bay, and highlights the nutty taste of sunflower and sesame seeds. Pacific Sea Salt is sure to twirl your taste buds.

Tea Suggestion:

With salty snacks like this, I want iced tea!  I brewed some of this Organic Korakundah Green Tea from Butiki Teas and served it iced with these Somersaults, and it was a great pairing.  The slightly smoky, sweet yet bitter taste of the green tea offered a nice contrast to the nutty crunch of these salty snacks.

What I Think:

I received a small package (1 ounce) of the Pacific Sea Salt Somersaults in my Goodies Box for September.  I was pretty certain I’d enjoy them, as I have loved the other flavors that I’ve tried of this snack.

In comparison, though, this one is just a little bland.  It is basically like eating roasted, salted sunflower seed kernels … only more substantial.  They have that very satisfying crunch and substance to them, and I find that this small package made for a nice between meal snack that kept me satiated until dinnertime.

They’re salty, but not too salty.  Tasty … nutty.  I like them, and they seem to satisfy that empty feeling between meals better than something less healthy like potato chips.

My Final Thoughts:

If I were to shop for snacks, I might choose Somersaults because they’re healthier than something like potato chips, and I’d feel better about my daughter snacking on these.  For my daughter, I’d probably select this flavor because I think that the salty pepper would be a little too peppery for her taste… but for me, this is probably not the flavor that I’d select.  I enjoyed them, sure, but after sampling the salty pepper or the cinnamon crunch Somersaults, these Pacific Sea Salt Somersaults left me wanting a little bit more flavor.

Golden with a delicious baked cheese flavor, these crackers make for the ideal treat with our signature Flagship cheese melted right in!

Tea Suggestion:

Crackers are a favorite tea time snack of mine, preferably with cheese … and these have the cheese baked right in.  I enjoyed these with a cup of Good Afternoon Tea from Grey’s Tea.  The smokiness of the tea lent itself very well to the delicious cheesiness of these crackers (and I do love a good smoky cheese!)  A very yummy pairing!

What I Think:

These crackers kind of threw me off at first… the texture kind of threw me off.  I thought that maybe they were stale because they didn’t have that light and crisp kind of texture that you get from other (commercial-type) cheese crackers.  These are denser and crunchy … but it took eating a couple of crackers to realize that they aren’t actually stale, they’re just not your typical cheese cracker.

And it’s not just the texture that’s different… it’s the cheese too.  I can really taste the cheese!   And it doesn’t taste like some artificial cheese.  This tastes like cheese that you might taste at the cheese bar in Whole Foods.  I can taste the quality in this cheese.  It tastes rich and sharp and delicious.  The cracker is lightly salty, and has a pleasing tangy cheese note.  Easily, the best cheese cracker I’ve ever tasted.

My Final Thoughts:

Overall the crackers are really outstanding … even if they do throw you for a loop at first!  They are deliciously crunchy and satisfying, with a distinct cheesy taste and a hint of saltiness.  They are wonderfully savory, something that I definitely will be buying again at my local Whole Foods (I was so excited to find them there the last time I was shopping, but I didn’t buy them because I knew I was getting some in this box).
