Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn from Rocky Mountain Popcorn

Product Information:

Cinnamon Sugar is our newest flavor that tastes like your mom’s cinnamon toast! We are proud to have this fantastic product in our line up and we are sure you will love the sweet taste.

I received a bag of this popcorn in my December Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

Because this popcorn already has a delicious sweet and cinnamon-y taste, I decided to go with a pure tea (rather than a flavored tea!), so I chose this delicious Royal Golden Safari Black Tea from Butiki Teas.  The natural spice notes of the tea were accentuated by the cinnamon sugar coated popcorn.  A really delightful tea time!

What I Think:

After trying some other gourmet flavored popcorn, Cinnamon Sugar popcorn just seemed kind of … ho-hum.  Boring.  Or so I thought until I tried it!  This is really yummy! It reminds me a lot of kettle corn, but with a delicious cinnamon-y twist.

The popcorn has a fluffy yet crispy texture, and I didn’t find the hulls to be too bothersome.  I was a little disappointed in the state of the popcorn … there were more small pieces of popcorn rather than full-sized, popped kernels … as if the package had been smashed or something.  I got some full-sized kernels, but there were considerably more “crumbs” than anything to this pouch.  The “crumbs” are still tasty, of course, but it’s easier to eat the full-sized kernels than the crumbs so it was a little less than ideal to snack on because the majority of my package was crumbs.

I did find a few un-popped kernels, as well as a few half-popped kernels.  I like half-popped kernels, so I’m not going to complain about that, but, when the package is mostly crumbs, and I’m left needing to pour the crumbs in my hand to eat them, and I bite down on an un-popped kernel in the handful … that’s a little unpleasant.

My Final Thoughts:

Overall, I enjoyed this snack, it was tasty … I just wish that there were more big, fluffy kernels and fewer kernel bits.

Product Information:

Amazing!  Who would have thought that honey roasted chickpeas can taste so good and be so addicting.  You will not be able to stop eating these super crunchy sweet and salty yet guilt free treats.  You’re getting 4 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein per ounce.

I received a package of these Chick Pz in my February Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

When trying these chickpea snacks, I wanted something clean and refreshing to sip, so I chose Blissful Buds Green Tea from Mellow Monk.  The sweet and savory taste of the tea made a nice accompaniment to these crunchy snacks.

What I Think:

I admit that I was kind of excited to try these … not because I particularly like chick peas or anything… but because I thought they would be different and really interesting.  Unfortunately, they didn’t live up to my expectations.

They’re alright, I guess … they kind of taste like a bland version of honey roasted peanuts.  The crunchy coating is tasty, sweet, and is similar to a candy coating that you might find on honey roasted peanuts.  The chick peas have a nice crunch to them … which is further enhanced by the crunchy coating.  But these lack depth.  It’s like the flavor kind of stops once you get beyond the sweet, crispy coat of salty, honey and toasty taste.  The chick peas … well, they taste like chick peas.  Slightly meaty, kind of mealy, and a little boring.

My Final Thoughts:

Overall, they aren’t bad.  They’re just … not all that exciting.  I can see the appeal of this product, especially if one is sensitive to peanut consumption.  Since I’m not, I personally would prefer to eat honey roasted peanuts than the chickpea alternative.  OK … but not great.

Product Description:

A quick and delicious snack made from stuff you can feel good about devouring.

I received this package of Snap Infusion Gummy Candy in my September Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

These are so sweet and fruity, I suggest trying them with something that might offset the sweetness just a little … something that refreshes the palate!  I chose this South Korean Green Tea from Butiki Teas.  The sweetness of the candy brought out the gentle sweetness of the tea, and the sharp, vegetative tones of the tea helped to cleanse the palate so that the candy didn’t become too cloying as I happily devoured it!

What I Think:

Generally speaking, I’m not a huge fan of gummy candy.  I like it alright, but, it’s not usually my first choice when it comes to selecting something to satisfy my sweet tooth.  But I LOVE these Snap Infusion candies!

They remind me not of the typical, plasticized gelatinous bears that all the kids are eating, but more of the old fashioned gel candies like the ones from Sunkist that I used to LOVE as a kid.  They even have that soft yet chewy texture of those gel candies.

And the flavor of them!  These taste bright and fruity.  I’m loving them!  I would definitely buy these again if I saw them in the store!

And while I wouldn’t go so far as to call these “healthy” … a quick glance at the label suggests that they’re better for you than the average candy.  There are no artificial flavors or colors, no corn syrup, and there’s just 90 calories in a serving.  Each serving has Vitamins E, B6, B12, and C.  Again, not what I’d consider “healthy” and I would question the whole concept of “Supercandy” … but these are certainly a better option than the overly sugared candies that are out there, and they taste great too.

My Final Thoughts:

Definitely something I’m going to keep an eye out for the next time I’m shopping.  I like these quite a bit.

Product Information:

Undercover Agent Double Oh Cheesy is our most popular flavor yet. We smother each leaf in Agent Cheesy’s super secret sauce, which is also 100% vegan. Let Agent Cheesy spring into action and tantalize your tastebuds with each satisfying crunch. One bag is never enough, so make sure you stock up!

These kale chips were part of my first (September’s) Goodies Box!

Tea Suggestion:

Because these chips already have an earthy, vegetative flavor to them, I wanted something that was refreshing and would help keep the palate from feeling overwhelmed.  Actually, with my first few bites of these kale chips, I wanted something that was going to taste sweet and cake-like to help offset the earthy, veggie-ness of the snack!  So I chose this Blueberry Streusel Honeybush from 52Teas to help make this snack time taste a little more decadent.  The sweetness of the blueberry and the sweet pastry-like flavor helped bring balance to the vegetative taste of the chip, while the hint of lemon in the tisane brought a bright note, a touch of acidity that I really enjoyed.

Where to Buy:

These are not the first kale “chips” that I’ve tried.  In fact, I liked the other cheese flavored Kale Chips (these are also vegan) that I tried and reviewed previously so much that when I found them in my local Whole Foods, I bought a package of them.

These kale chips from snackLets are not as immediately pleasing as those first kale chips that I tried – the instant those others hit my palate I was in love!  Like love at first bite.  In contrast, these I had to “get to know a little better” before I could say I liked them … in fact, before I started writing this review, I thought it was going to be a negative review because I didn’t think I liked them.  But now that I’ve given them some time … I’m liking them more.  I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point where I’ll love them enough to buy them again, but, I’m eating them.  And I’m enjoying them.

So what’s the biggest difference between these and those?  These are not as cheesy as the others… and they taste more like Kale.  They are more vegetative, more earthy, and even a little bitter in the first few bites.   In contrast, these taste “healthier” than the others did, but I think that is what makes the biggest difference to me.  I want my healthy snacks to not taste this healthy.   At heart, I’m a junk food junkie, but, I know that it’s not smart to eat like that … so I want to be able to snack smart, but I don’t want it to taste like I’m snacking smart.

My Final Thoughts:

I liked these, but I didn’t love them.  I probably won’t seek this particular brand of kale chips again.  But if I see the other brand, I’ll still grab that one!  That one lets me snack smart without tasting like it!

I was really surprised when the mail carrier knocked on the door … I wasn’t expecting anything.  I had just received my notification that my box had shipped a day or two ago, so I wasn’t expecting my Goodies box until a little closer to the end of the month.

But this was a happy surprise, and especially welcome given the evening that I had last night, and the day that I’ve been having today.  Last week, my husband had come down with a bad cold (maybe it was the flu?) and he had to miss a couple of days of work.  Anyone who knows my hubby knows that he just doesn’t miss work.  He has to be really sick to miss it.  Otherwise, he drags himself in there.  That’s just the kind of guy he is.  So when he needs to call in sick … you know he’s sick.

Fortunately, it wasn’t a long-lasting bug … he was feeling down and out for a couple of days, but he was able to head back to work after only missing a couple of days.  And after a few more days had come and gone, I thought that maybe I was in the clear and I wasn’t going to come down with whatever he caught.

Yeah… no.  It didn’t happen that way.

At some point late at night I started feeling really sick … hot one minute, freezing the next, and every time I’d swallow it felt like I was swallowing razor blades.  Achy everywhere.  In short … not feeling good.  This just hasn’t been my month!  First a sprained ankle, now some flu or cold bug.  I guess we can’t be 100% … 100% of the time.

So, it was a nice surprise to have my box arrive today … even though I don’t have the taste buds to really enjoy anything (I’ll be saving these goodies until after I’m feeling better), it was nice to get a lovely box of goodies!

The “theme” card of this box reads “Trick or Treat” which suggests that there are all kind of indulgent goodies in the box.  (I guess the fact that it’s called a “Goodies Box” might also lead one to assume that the box is filled with goodies too!), and really, that’s what’s in here.  Most of these goodies are ones I haven’t yet tried!  I like that, because I love trying something new.  Who knows … I might just find a new favorite!

Tucked inside this month’s box are Toasted Coconut Chips from Dang, a Mayesa drink box (it appears to be a chocolate-y drink), Cinnamon Brown Sugar Smartfood Selects, Juicefuls, Nutella & Go, and a bag of Chocolate Chip Brownie Brittle.  YUM!  Again, a box brimming full of yummy goodies for just $7.  I am not sure how Goodies Co.  does it!

I’ve tried Nutella before, and I do enjoy it, although I must tell you that I’ve discovered a better product (Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter) so I guess this is probably the only product I’m not super-excited about.  But I’ll still enjoy it!

As I said before, I’m not going to start digging in to this box until I’m feeling better, I can’t really write a review on these foods with my tongue feeling as though it’s covered in a blanket and only about 1/4 of the flavor getting through.  I want to have my taste buds in full working order to taste these!

Another fun box!
