???????????????????????????????Product Information:

Creamy Greek yogurt and rich chocolate combine to bring you a great tasting, nutrition bar.

I received this ZonePerfect Green Yogurt Chocolate Bar in my September Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

While I wasn’t overly impressed with this bar, I was impressed with the tea that I chose to drink with it.   I went with this Organic Nonpareil Ming Qian Dragon Well Green Tea from Teavivre!  The tea was exceptional.  The nutrition bar … not so much.

What I Think:

So, I can’t tell you that I was really excited about receiving this nutrition bar in my last Goodies box, mostly because most of these so-called nutrition bars are filled with sugars and fat … and I don’t really consider either one to be particularly “nutritious.”  In fact, a quick glance at their nutrition information suggests to me that what makes these bars “nutritious” is that they have 3 grams of fiber and 12 grams of protein.

Now, during the time that I’ve been receiving various tasting boxes like the Goodies box, I have come across some really tasty energy/nutrition bars, and some of them were good enough that I’d be happy to eat them again.  This … isn’t one of those bars.

The first ingredient listed in their “chocolate layer” is corn syrup.  The second ingredient is sugar.  And … this is nutritious?

I don’t really know a whole lot about nutrition.  I’m not an expert in that field.  But, one thing that I have learned in my years on this earth is that when reading ingredient lists on the labels of foods, the ingredients are listed in order of amount that the product actually contains.  Which means … this is mostly corn syrup and sugar.   I’m not tremendously impressed here.  I certainly wouldn’t buy this because it’s really nutritious.

As for the taste … it tastes … well, it tastes an energy bar.  It has a mild chocolate flavor (and more chocolate = better … this bar did not follow that rule.) It’s crunchy.  There isn’t a whole lot of “yogurt-y” taste to this.  It’s sweet … almost like a candy bar but it isn’t.

Of the energy bars that I have tasted … I’ve tasted better than this.  This tastes like a commercially manufactured energy/nutrition bar, and that’s what it is.  I wouldn’t buy one of these for the taste.

My Final Thoughts:

I wouldn’t buy it for the taste or the nutritional qualities of the bar … in other words, I’m not buying it.  Not impressed with this at all, and after tasting this bar, I’m happy (again) that I’ve cancelled my subscription to the Goodies box.

???????????????????????????????Product Information:

This gluten-free rice cracker is packed with tasty toasted seeds: sesame, quinoa, flax and amaranth, resulting in a crunchy cracker with excellent texture and nutty flavor. Enjoy them solo or with your dip, spread or cheese of choice.

I received a bag of these crackers in my July Goodie Box.

Tea Suggestion:

I thought that these would make a decent alternative to a sweeter tea time treat.  I ate these crackers with a cup of Razzleberry Flavored Genmaicha Tea from 52Teas, The natural nutty tones of the tea worked nicely with the nutty quality of the crackers, and the sweet-tart berry notes brought in a nice, treat-y element without going too sweet.  The tea was much tastier than the crackers, though.

What I Think:

These are very crunchy … almost to the point of being a bit more dense than I would like them to be.  I prefer a thinner, crispy cracker as opposed to a thick, crunchy one.

I can taste the seeds, and they give the crackers a very enjoyable texture and nutty taste.  But … they taste … healthy.  Let’s face it … we all probably would prefer to be eating healthier and making more sensible choices when we’re snacking, but, when we are snacking, we don’t like to be reminded by the food we’re eating that we’re not indulging.

These don’t feel indulgent.  They aren’t “delicious” … they’re edible, certainly, and I didn’t hate that I was eating them, if that makes sense.  But they didn’t excite me all that much either.  I wasn’t thinking to myself:  “oh yeah, I gotta go get me some of these.”

My Final Thoughts:

I liked these crackers alright, but, as far as gluten-free, multi-seed type crackers, I preferred the Mary’s Gone Crackers snack crackers that I reviewed recently.  These just … aren’t as tasty.  They’re alright, but, not anything I’d rush out to buy again.

And it actually … not only arrived IN AUGUST … but it also arrived BEFORE my Knoshbox which was quite remarkable, especially since when the Goodies Box started last year, the box was more often than not arriving a few days into the month following the month it was actually intended to be for.  I’m glad to say that Goodies Co. finally has it running smoothly!  Hooray – or should I say Goodie – for them!

???????????????????????????????

This month, we received six goodies.  The goodies are getting smaller in these boxes … which I guess is acceptable since this is supposed to be a sampler box and since it does only cost $7 a month!  I don’t mind, really, because it’s still a great opportunity to sample some treats that I might not otherwise try for a really affordable price.

In August’s Goodie Box was a small package of Sour Wild Berry Tangy Zangy Twisties which are tiny, sour gummy like candies that are like the size and shape of a small tootsie roll.  I’m not in to sour gummy candy, so I gave the package to my 12 year old daughter to try and she gave these candies an enthusiastic thumbs up.  She tried them, said these aren’t very sour at all and that they were really good.  Then she asked if she could have the rest of them.  So, I guess she liked them!

The first thing I reached for from this box was a sample bag of Hidden Valley Ranch flavored Sunflower Seeds from Bigs.  These are tasty … I can taste the ranch flavoring, and it adds a nice savory taste to the salty seeds.  An enjoyable snack.

I also found a bottle of Bright Alō Light Aloe Vera Juice, A bag of Veggie Sticks from The Daily Crave, Sea Salt & Butter flavored Poplets, and a Cool Café Blues Liquid Coffee Brewstick  from Pronto!

I won’t be trying the Coffee Brewstick because … I don’t drink coffee.  Coffee is evil.  (Sorry if I’ve offended any coffee drinkers out there.)  Coffee does all sorts of mean, horrible things to me after I drink it, and I’m better off with tea.  But I’ll pass the brewstick along to a friend so it doesn’t get wasted!

The other items, other than the coffee and the candy … I’ll be writing up  separate reviews for at some point in the near future!  I hope you’ll watch for them!

Product Information:

Amazing!  Who would have thought that honey roasted chickpeas can taste so good and be so addicting.  You will not be able to stop eating these super crunchy sweet and salty yet guilt free treats.  You’re getting 4 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein per ounce.

I received a package of these Chick Pz in my February Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

When trying these chickpea snacks, I wanted something clean and refreshing to sip, so I chose Blissful Buds Green Tea from Mellow Monk.  The sweet and savory taste of the tea made a nice accompaniment to these crunchy snacks.

What I Think:

I admit that I was kind of excited to try these … not because I particularly like chick peas or anything… but because I thought they would be different and really interesting.  Unfortunately, they didn’t live up to my expectations.

They’re alright, I guess … they kind of taste like a bland version of honey roasted peanuts.  The crunchy coating is tasty, sweet, and is similar to a candy coating that you might find on honey roasted peanuts.  The chick peas have a nice crunch to them … which is further enhanced by the crunchy coating.  But these lack depth.  It’s like the flavor kind of stops once you get beyond the sweet, crispy coat of salty, honey and toasty taste.  The chick peas … well, they taste like chick peas.  Slightly meaty, kind of mealy, and a little boring.

My Final Thoughts:

Overall, they aren’t bad.  They’re just … not all that exciting.  I can see the appeal of this product, especially if one is sensitive to peanut consumption.  Since I’m not, I personally would prefer to eat honey roasted peanuts than the chickpea alternative.  OK … but not great.

Product Description:

Oogie’s Popcorn just may be the perfect snack. Made from the highest-quality non-GMO corn, perfectly popped in small batches, it’s delightfully light, airy and crisp with a dash of white cheddar tang. Plus, it’s healthy to boot.

I received this sample bag of Oogie’s popcorn in my November Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

I usually prefer iced tea when I have popcorn, an icy cold beverage just seems to go perfectly with the salty goodness of popcorn!  I chilled some of this Key Lime Ceylon from Fusion Teas, and I thought it made a delicious pairing with the salty, cheesy, spiced flavor of the popcorn.  A refreshing and zesty snack!

What I Think:

Having previously tried the Sundried Tomato & Parmesan Popcorn from Oogie’s, I was fairly confident that I’d enjoy this White Cheddar gourmet popcorn, also from Oogie’s.  I mean, really … what’s not to like?  Cheddar cheese & popcorn?  YUM!  Yes please!

The popcorn is light, fluffy and crispy.  Each kernel is coated with a seasoned powder that is salty and cheesy, with hints of garlic powder and onion powder, just to keep it interesting.   Perfect for when you want a salty snack, I’d take this over potato chips anytime!

My Final Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this bag of popcorn … and I found that it disappeared way too quickly!  It was deliciously savory, and neither I nor my palate felt weighed down after snacking on it – and usually both my palate and I feel a little weighed down after snacking on something like chips, so I’d say that this popcorn, in addition to being a healthier snack choice, is definitely a WIN-WIN!  I don’t know that it’s necessarily what I’d consider a healthy snack, but it is definitely better for you than something that’s been fried, like a potato chip.

Product Description:

Everyone knows the best piece in a batch of brownies is the crispy corner. With Brownie Brittle, every bite is a corner with silky smooth chocolate chips! Crunchy, wafer-like texture and deep chocolate flavor, this brittle is a little taste of heaven.

I received a pouch of this Brownie Brittle in my October Goodies Box.

Tea Suggestion:

Because these are very crunchy and cookie-like, I recommend choosing a tea that you’d drink with crispy cookies, like maybe a dessert tea!  Since these are really chocolate-y on their own, I thought that a chocolate tea might be a tad too much (although there really is no such thing as too much chocolate, is there?) so I decided to go with a coconut tea!  This Coconut Dream from New Mexico Tea Company is one of my favorites, and combining the chocolate brownie brittle with the coconut tea is quite indulgent!

What I Think:

Is it any surprise that I love brownies?  Hello?  I’m a chocoholic!

And when I bake a batch of brownies, my favorite parts are the edges.  I love the tender, chewy, fudge-y flavor of the brownie, but I like it even better as it gets toward that slightly dry, crispy edge.  When  I bake brownies, it doesn’t get too crispy or crunchy, there’s just a little bit of buttery caramelization there, and it’s heavenly!

So when I read the package to this, suggesting that with this Brownie Brittle there is no fighting over the corner piece … I thought, Oh!  Awesome!  That slightly crisp edge!  YUM!

But, this is a bit MORE than crispy.  It’s crunchier than any brownie edge that I’ve ever produced.  I usually go for the slightly underbaked brownie so that it retains some of that fudge-y texture once it’s cooled.  But this tastes as though the brownie were overcooked!  Not burned, exactly, but certainly left in the oven too long.  It’s dry, absolutely non-fudge-y, totally un-chewy, crisp as a cracker and thin as one too.

I like it alright as it is chocolate, but unfortunately, that it it’s only redeeming quality.  The chocolate.  I think that the concept of offering all the crunchy edges of the brownie is a good one, but, it just doesn’t work out with this product.

My Final Thoughts:

As the only thing that’s really good about this is that it’s chocolate, it is certainly not something I’ll be buying again.  I think I might like them better if they were a little thicker (like maybe a chunky biscotti) or if it were a little less crisp, with some true brownie-esque qualities to it.  As it is, it sort of feels like I’m eating a burnt brownie without it actually being burnt.  That part is good, of course, but, I find myself wanting more brownie than brittle.

Product Information:

Undercover Agent Double Oh Cheesy is our most popular flavor yet. We smother each leaf in Agent Cheesy’s super secret sauce, which is also 100% vegan. Let Agent Cheesy spring into action and tantalize your tastebuds with each satisfying crunch. One bag is never enough, so make sure you stock up!

These kale chips were part of my first (September’s) Goodies Box!

Tea Suggestion:

Because these chips already have an earthy, vegetative flavor to them, I wanted something that was refreshing and would help keep the palate from feeling overwhelmed.  Actually, with my first few bites of these kale chips, I wanted something that was going to taste sweet and cake-like to help offset the earthy, veggie-ness of the snack!  So I chose this Blueberry Streusel Honeybush from 52Teas to help make this snack time taste a little more decadent.  The sweetness of the blueberry and the sweet pastry-like flavor helped bring balance to the vegetative taste of the chip, while the hint of lemon in the tisane brought a bright note, a touch of acidity that I really enjoyed.

Where to Buy:

These are not the first kale “chips” that I’ve tried.  In fact, I liked the other cheese flavored Kale Chips (these are also vegan) that I tried and reviewed previously so much that when I found them in my local Whole Foods, I bought a package of them.

These kale chips from snackLets are not as immediately pleasing as those first kale chips that I tried – the instant those others hit my palate I was in love!  Like love at first bite.  In contrast, these I had to “get to know a little better” before I could say I liked them … in fact, before I started writing this review, I thought it was going to be a negative review because I didn’t think I liked them.  But now that I’ve given them some time … I’m liking them more.  I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point where I’ll love them enough to buy them again, but, I’m eating them.  And I’m enjoying them.

So what’s the biggest difference between these and those?  These are not as cheesy as the others… and they taste more like Kale.  They are more vegetative, more earthy, and even a little bitter in the first few bites.   In contrast, these taste “healthier” than the others did, but I think that is what makes the biggest difference to me.  I want my healthy snacks to not taste this healthy.   At heart, I’m a junk food junkie, but, I know that it’s not smart to eat like that … so I want to be able to snack smart, but I don’t want it to taste like I’m snacking smart.

My Final Thoughts:

I liked these, but I didn’t love them.  I probably won’t seek this particular brand of kale chips again.  But if I see the other brand, I’ll still grab that one!  That one lets me snack smart without tasting like it!
