Tea Suggestion:

What a lovely alternative to the traditional tea-time treat this Ginger Caramel Gourmet Popcorn made.  I enjoyed this popcorn with some Fengqing Dragon Black Pearl tea from Teavivre.  The richness of the tea brought out the ginger flavor just a little more, and the caramel notes of the popcorn seemed to bring out more of the sweetness of the tea.

What I Think:

As I mentioned before, after my review of the Organic Cherry Vanilla Cotton Candy from Bernod’s SpinCity, Bernod Group sent me a few of their popcorn selections to try.  This is one of those popcorns, and it is the last popcorn from Bernod’s I have left.  How I managed to keep it this long is surprising to me, I had to keep it well out of sight to keep it out of mind.

I knew I’d love this Ginger Caramel Popcorn … I love caramel corn, and I love ginger, and I figured the addition of ginger to the caramel would amp up the spice level a bit.  And I LOVE the combination of spicy and sweet!

The first couple of kernels that I popped in my mouth tasted very much like the original Caramel Popcorn from Bernod’s.  Sweet and crunchy with just enough chewiness from the caramel to give it an interesting contrast in texture.  The buttery flavor of the caramel.  But … I didn’t taste much from the ginger.  Then, after the third or fourth bite, I noticed a heat starting to develop.  Yeah, that’s the stuff!

It never becomes overwhelmingly spicy, and I don’t think I’d want it to.  I enjoy the level of ginger here.  It adds just enough peppery spice to it to offer contrast and to keep the flavor interesting enough to keep wanting to have another bite … which becomes sad when you reach the bottom of the bag!

My Final Thoughts:

I absolutely loved this Ginger Caramel Popcorn from Bernod’s… it just might be my favorite yet.  When I spoke to Bernod’s about the availability of this product, I was told that it can be found at HomeGoods – and I did find the original Caramel Popcorn at my local HomeGoods.  But I didn’t see any of the other popcorn flavors from Bernod’s there.  I don’t know if that is because they just didn’t have it in stock at the time or if they do not stock any other varieties other than the original Caramel…. if you find this product any where else, be sure to let me know!

Tea Suggestion:

When it comes to popcorn, I generally prefer it with iced tea, because it tends to refresh the palate quickly (it’s easier to guzzle iced tea than it is hot tea!) and cleanly.  This is especially true for savory popcorn like this Truffle Salt Gourmet Popcorn.  I chose this Organic Spring Twist from Butiki Teas and poured it over ice, and the light, crisp, fruity taste with vegetative undertones seemed to meld in perfect harmony with the savory, salty, earthy flavors of this Truffle Salt popcorn.  YUM!

What I Think:

Recently, I was contacted by the nice people at Bernod’s Group, and as a thank you for mentioning them in one of my posts, as well as reviewing their yummy organic Cherry Vanilla Cotton Candy, they sent me a package of not one, not two, but FOUR of their yummy gourmet popcorn treats!  I’ve already reviewed the two that are readily available from their website:  the caramel corn and the kettle corn.   (and just as a side note, my husband touts the caramel corn as the BEST caramel corn he’s ever tasted!)

But this Truffle Salt Gourmet Popcorn is not on their website, so I contacted Bernod’s to find out where one might be able to obtain this yummy popcorn, and they informed me that their gourmet popcorn selections are also available at HomeGoods.   Awesome!  I love that store anyway, so this is just another excuse to shop!

Anyway, this stuff is awesome!  The popcorn is fluffy and lightly seasoned with truffle salt.  The truffle is what really makes the difference here between ordinary popcorn and something extraordinary – because it gives it a delightful, savory taste that is so irresistible!  There is a hint of buttery goodness too – it’s not a heavy buttery essence, but just a hint that accents the sweet, toasty, popped corn taste.

My Final Thoughts:

Slightly earthy, and tasting truly gourmet, I found myself not wanting to stop!  Just so good!  Yes, I absolutely need to make a stop into HomeGoods the next time we’re in the area (if you’re in the Portland/Vancouver, WA area, the HomeGoods where I shop is located in the Cascade Station near the airport.)  I want more of this Truffle Salt Popcorn, and I think that my husband wants more of that caramel corn too!

Product Description:

Lightly salted yet sweet, our Kettle Corn is perfect for those who crave a lower-sodium, low-calorie, yet satisfying snack.

Tea Suggestion:

This would make a tasty treat to accompany any tea – hot or cold – but since it’s summer, this tasted exceptional with a tall glass of iced tea.   I’d recommend something lightly sweet (this Kettle Corn has such an enjoyable sweetness on its own, you don’t want to interfere with that!) and fruit-flavored, so I chose this Sea Breeze Green Tea from 52Teas.  The tea has a delicate sweetness and a pleasant tartness that offered additional contrast to the salty and sweet flavor of the Kettle Corn.  A delicious pair.

What I Think:

In a word:  YUMMY!

This Kettle Corn is perfect.  It is light and crunchy and sweet and salty … everything I want from Kettle Corn.  The only thing that could make this even better is if I were at the fair or a carnival and I was eating it warm.  But since I’m not at a fair or carnival, this is the next best thing!

My photo is terrible (I’m no photographer) but I wanted to show what the package I received looked like.

The kernels are popped up big and fluffy, and they seem to melt in my mouth.  Each fluffy kernel has been coated with a crispy sweet coating that is lighter in flavor and texture than the typical caramel.  I like that the sugar coating isn’t grainy, it’s been melted and covers each morsel of popcorn with just the right amount of sweetness and saltiness to offer a tantalizing contrast of flavors that keeps me happily eating.

And what also impresses me is that all of the kernels are big and fluffy.  I don’t have a bunch of unpopped or even half-popped kernels in this bag, and the soft, fluffy popcorn is such a nice textural contrast to the crackly crispness of the sweet coating.

This tasty kettle corn doesn’t taste too oily, but there is a light buttery note to this.  It also doesn’t feel too oily, nor does it feel sticky.  It is one of those snacks that you can enjoy anytime, anywhere without worry that it will render your hand too messy.  It’s one of those tasty snacks that can not only satiate the hunger but also satisfy those cravings for something sweet AND something salty.

My Final Thoughts:

I feel I want to finish this review with the same word I started it with:  YUMMY!  This was really a delicious treat.  It’s a good thing I had my daughter here to help me eat some of this – because I probably would have polished off the 4 ounce bag in one sitting.  And her assessment of this popcorn is the same as mine:  YUMMY!
